Brett was born in Lafayette, Indiana and graduated from Purdue University before completing his studies in physical therapy at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1975. Brett has been employed in various orthopedic and sports physical therapy centers in Atlanta and Las Vegas, in addition to working at Portsmouth Hospital in New Hampshire from 1975 to 1981.
The Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy Clinic, P.A., a private-practice, outpatient facility, was established in 1981, under Brett’s direction. In 2004, Brett satisfied all the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Physical Therapy from Emory University.
Dr. Eberle is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Maine Chapter APTA, presently serving as the Treasurer of the Maine Chapter. He sits on the Legislative and Continuing Education Committees and is Chair of the Finance Committee. Brett is an APTA certified clinical education instructor. Over the years, he has served the Maine Chapter APTA as Chair of Continuing Education and Nominating Committees, receiving the President’s Award in 1984. Brett was a delegate of the APTA National Convention in Kansas City, Kansas in 1983
Brett resides in South Portland with wife Jane and has three grown children. He enjoys riding his motorcycle, boating, woodworking, downhill and cross country skiing.
Steven C. Johnston, PT
Steve was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982 at the University of Orono. In 1987, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. He worked as a staff physical therapist at the Osteopathic Hospital for two years before coming to the OSPTC in 1989.
Steve is married and has two teenage children. He lives in Cumberland. His hobbies include bicycling, basketball and woodworking.
Christine Grabowy, PT, MSPT, CPT, CSCS
Chris attended Boston University and received a BS in Allied Health Sciences and an MS in Physical Therapy in 1999. She has worked primarily in outpatient orthopaedic settings where she was involved in hospital-wide ergonomic education, aquatic physical therapy and the general evaluation and treatment of orthopaedic problems.
Chris is an APTA certified clinical instructor which enables her to supervise and educate physical therapy students. She is also a NSCA certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning specialist. Chris is married, currently expecting her first child in December of 2006. She enjoys many of the outdoor experiences Maine offers including mountain biking, hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and playing ultimate Frisbee.
Ethel Hovencamp, PTA
Ethel was born in Lincoln, Maine. She served four years in the Air Force. Ethel graduated with honors from New Hampshire Technical College with an Associates in Applied Science and joined the OSPTC in 1993. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, NH Musculoskeletal Institute, and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM).
Ethel has cycled in the MS150 as a chaperone to a 12 year old girl, Trek across Maine for the Lung Association and the Tour de Cure for Diabetes. She volunteers for the annual PT8K road race, the BCM Women’s Heart Ride and is one of the organizers for the community dances at the Falmouth Congregational Church. Ethel enjoys Irish set dancing, gardening, basketry, cross-country skiing, and hiking. She lives in Portland.
Cynthia Schaeffer, PTA
Cindy was born in Groton, CT as the oldest of five children. She has two sisters and twin brothers. As her father served as an officer in the Navy for thirty years, Cindy lived in eight states and traveled to or through thirty-three of the fifty states.
She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Science from Ithaca College in 1999. She then went on to Endicott College and graduated from the Physical Therapist Assistant program in 2002. Cindy joined the staff of OSPTC in December of 2003. She has also been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since joining as a student in 2000.
In her free time, Cindy enjoys running, cooking, spending time with friends and family and taking long walks with her chocolate Lab. She lives in Gray, ME with her husband and new infant son.
